Smashed Frog has been most graciously welcomed into the Political Grind fold. A political editorial blog with eleven staff writers, I am thrilled by the glorious acceptance. I love the tag line: Enjoy and be civilized.
Per usual--sex--the accusation, the comedy and sadly, the tragedy is a news draw this morning in Florida.
The mayor of Mascotte, Florida--tarred and feathered politically for alleged child molestation charges, brought forth the day before the election-talk about a November surprise-did not win re-election. He did receive 31.64 percent of the vote. Jeff Krull--who had been hospitalized with chest pains after the arrest--will remain mayor for two more weeks and expects to be exonerated of all charges.
A jury has been seated for home boy Bob Allen ( R-Merritt Island) and arguments begin today. Members selected to sit in fate of Bob include a Christian school teacher, a Florida Power and Light employee, a retired bookkeeper and a what were they thinking choice--a county parks and recreation employee, interesting alone in the fact that the whole alleged dirty deed took place at Space Coast Park.
And finally, my Google Alert snagged a Miami Herald op ed regarding the execution of Mark Dean Schwab--convicted for the rape and murder of a Brevard County boy sixteen years ago. The writer cites this murder as the catalyst that "lengthened prison terms for child-predators, tightened early-release programs and invoke ever more severe residential limitations for sex criminals" and went on to say that Miami "sex offenders forced to live in their cars or under the Julia Tuttle Causeway can thank Mark Dean Schwab, in part, for their predicament."
Hmmm. I'm fairly certain John Couey would argue the infamy point. (A quick aside--the writer does not comment that Schwab walked into a public school and checked this child out--without ID, without a phone call to the parents, without being listed on the student registration. I've always wondered how the school system escaped a lawsuit on that one. (But then, the state of Florida escaped a lawsuit on Jessica Lunsford by giving her father the limelight).
And so it goes...another sunny (chilly) day in Florida.
See ya.
